Detroitz No.1 Mixtape DJ (www.mixtapemakers.com) DJBABE was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1972. After watching a friend gain fame as a DJ in the movie Rappin in the mid eighties, he decided to try his hand at the art form. After his family relocated to Detroit, DJBABE gained notoriety in his neighborhood as a local DJ. During the mid nineties DJBABE began to DJ in many Detroit area nightclubs. In 1996, he began to do street team work for several record labels which eventually expanded to Priority, Bad Boy and Tommy Boy to name a few. Also in 1996, he began an internship with radio station WDET as a studio engineer. This led to a position as production assistant where he stayed until 1999. In 1998 he began an internship with Arista Records as promotions assistant, eventually, taking over the position to promote to radio mixshow DJs for the Detroit/Ohio Valley regional. 1998 was also the year that he would release his first mixtape, titled The 45 Speed Mixshow which he sold several hundred copies. 2000 was a big year as DJBABE was hired as a mixer with Detroit urban station WJLB. He began a popular late night show that aired Friday and Saturday nights featuring many local acts from Detroit. From this opportunity he was able to meet DJs and record label execs from other markets that helped to expand his name. 2000 was also the year that his next mixtape dropped, Sex World, which became a hood favorite due to its low budget movie that accompanied the CD. In November 2001, DJBABE would become one of the first DJs to mix on XM satellite radio in its initial launch. The same month he joined the staff at MCA Records as Field Marketing Rep for the Detroit area. It was also that year that he joined the nationally recognized DJ crew, The Tech.Nitions, which consist of the leading radio/club/tour DJs from the country as well as DJs in Italy, Australia and Trinidad. His DJ association would also expand to two New York based companies, The Cornerstone 1200 Squad and RPM Emixshow crew, which includes DJs gathering yearly for a major conference in Puerto Rico. The next mixtapes were released in 2002, with Godzilla 2K2, Superman 2K2 & The 7 Mile Album hitting the stores. DJBABE would go on to sell several thousand CDs between the 3 of these titles. The 7 Mile Album mixtape brand would also mark the beginning of a series of CDs featuring the top Detroit hip hop acts as well as artist from around the country. 2003 saw even more sells with 9 mixtapes released in that year, including Vol. 5 of the 7 Mile series which was recognized as Mixtape Of The Month from Def Jam Records in September of that year. These titles have definitely solidified DJBABE as a major player in the mixtape circuit. Sales also have expanded to cities such as Los Angeles, Fort Meyers, FL., Cincinnati, Tennessee, & Cambridge, England to name a few along with several websites. Radio mixer guest spots also increased in 2003, with stations in Cincinnati, Tallahassee, FL., Tulsa, OK, Augusta, GA., Fayetteville, NC., Springfield, Ill., Muskegon, MI. & Detroit station WDTJ bringing DJBABE on for various mixer events. 2004 continued to be a big year with DJBABE touring with the support team for Web Entertainment/Koch artist King Gordy with Interscope Records artist D12 along with Slum Village and Bonecrusher. DJBABE was also enlisted with national DJ crews The Core DJs and The Bumsquad DJz. Sirius Satellite Radio also called to enlist DJBABE as a mixer. Jumping into the mixtape website game, DJBABE launched MixtapeMakers.com, which services mixtapes from many of the industrys top DJs and artist. Platinum recording artist Obie Trice also enlisted DJBABE as his tour DJ in 2004. Pudgee Recording act Kali Fam also hired DJBABE as their tour DJ during the NBA Jams tour. Over the years, DJBABE has also branded his name as a key DJ for music industry parties. Past industry parties include music for Outkast, TLC, Babyface, David Banner, Naughty By Nature, Funk Master Flex, BMG, Universal, Blackground & WEA to name a few. 2006 continues to look bright for DJBABE as he continues to create a path for himself in the music business.
