Talent is a gift provided to those that are meant to share it with the world. Christina aka “Queen of Spades†has been a long time DJ that is still making steady waves on the urban scene. Known for her outgoing personality, and animated presence at many urban events, many are not aware of the talent that lies within one of Toronto’s rarities.
Like her hometown of Toronto, Queen has emerged onto the urban scene with the confidence and flair required to be known, loved and successful. She has taken her study of music to the next level and implemented it to a craft that is rarely traveled by Canadian females: the Hip Hop element of DJ’ing. Her love of music started her in dancing. She founded and participated in dance groups such as Nu-Matik and Anonymous. This led her to coordinating for PR and Promotions with Maddox Entertainment. Queen was easily able to maneuver through the industry in these few short years, due to contacts she made through her dance groups.Queen’s was inspired to hone her skills in 1996, when she began to master the art of DJ’ing. Although she taught herself how to mix, Starting from Scratch, Baby Blue, King Turbo, Skimpy Boy and P-Plus have been big influences in her career. Until 1999, she frequently played at Berlin Nightclub and created self-exposure by playing at many private events, such as BBQ’s and house parties – at which she was personally invited by the host/hostess due to her ability to merge talent and personality; she never lost sight of where she came from. Her ability to keep in touch with her fan-base and using grassroots techniques, has kept her image as a down to earth female, with a love and talent for music. After a small hiatus until 2002, Queen released her first album, mastered with the assistance of Digital Anarchy, “Hot In The Street: Vol.1†which was a huge success. It thoroughly showed her ability, and was so well received, she released “Hot In The Street: Vol 2†in late 2003 and “Hot In The Street: Vol. 3†in 2004 – both mastered by Sir Greg.In the last 4 years, Queen has frequented different venues such as Zone One and Rimrock – only solidifying her diversity, as both clubs cater to different crowds. Lately, she has broadened her industry horizons by assisting in Promotions with Ian Andre Espinet, X-CLUSV and Starting from Scratch, which has increased her familiarity of industry elements and contacts.Currently, you can catch Queen of Spades spinning weekly at Pur Lounge brought to you by Carlos Promo. She is also currently working on promotions with Ian Andre Espinet, Mel Boogie and the #1 DJ in North America, Starting From Scratch. Still rising, there are no limits to how far Queen's skills will take her!.This triple threat is still pushing the limits of personal capability, motivation and drive. Also, working on her new series of mixtapes, Queen is ready to reinvent and reapply herself. Get ‘em ready – there’s about to be a takeover!!!
