Divebombing to Earth on the same ship as George Clinton, James Brown, Mike Patton and Frank Zappa, when Tone Def crash landed in Bishop Stortford he was speaking an alien language to those around him. After shrugging off some early years of English language conditioning, Tone rediscovered his native tongue, hidden in code amongst house and techno records, and started babbling the funk at everyone he met.
Ignoring the bemused looks he got from those around him, he made his dialect deeper and weirder, and all the more funky, until he finally found a forum for intellgient debate without having to stoop to mere human words. That place was Delete, and it turned out that everyone understood exactly what Tone was saying.
With a selection of his funky lectures spreading the world over through the great power of the internet, Tone felt it was time to start his own soapbox from which to rant, and so Alt Recordings was born. Quite what language Tone is speaking now is anyone’s guess, but there’s definitely still some funk in there somewhere.
Tone Def has also released as Tony Guinness. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who spell guinness wrong. GUINNESS NOT GUINESS!!!
