The I AM HERE movement is striving to eliminate the negative stereotypes commonly associated with hip-hop music and culture. To most, hip-hop music represents the glorification of poverty, drugs, crime and abuse on the streets. The media has mistakenly labeled hip hop as a downward spiral which promotes more violence, poverty and drugs. However, the harsh reality is that hip hop music is a vivid representation of the day-to-day life and environment for much of the hip hop community. I AM HERE is dedicated to creating an awareness which will encourage our youth to follow the path for a bright future….one that does not include drugs, violence or crime. Instead of glorifying a self destructive lifestyle I AM HERE will focus on the struggles which will inevitably result from poor decisions. It will stress the reality of long lasting consequences and the importance of taking an active role in controlling your own destiny. I AM HERE will inspire our youth to not simply become products of their environment…..but to prosper and succeed despite the environmental factors that are not within their control. If the struggles of poverty can be realistically portrayed then we have a chance of making a difference in the lives of those who hold a key to the future. It is imperative that we encourage our youth to rise above the negativity in the world. Negativity and temptation are everywhere…..I AM HERE will focus not on their existence but on the importance of reacting in a positive manner and making decisions that will pave the road to success. Our goal of molding future generations can be achieved if we can effectively turn the negatives into positives. The promoters of I AM HERE are real people. They have been not only victims, but survivors, of these struggles. They more than anyone realize the importance of being instrumental in preventing future generations from becoming casualties of their environment. Through their experiences it will become evident that everyone is in this struggle of life together….no one is alone. There is strength in numbers. The ultimate goal of I AM HERE will be directed toward eradicating poverty all together…..a goal which seems impossible but there is no telling what can be accomplished when communities are brought together as a whole. Our chances of saving lives and building bright futures improves every time the message of I AM HERE is heard. I AM HERE is contagious. ..
