About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4I live in San Francisco and play bass, sometimes even on a keyboard, which--between you and me--is a little too fun for comfort. I'm the Senior Editor of Bass Player Magazine, which is not so bad for a day job. Recently this has included doing a bunch of video lessons and gear previews...check out www.bassplayer.tv, which, bias aside, is one of the coolest freest things for bass players online.I play a lot, too. I've played live with or been on records with Cyrus Chestnut, Oz Noy, Atma Anur, Will Kennedy, Alex Acuna, Jerry Goodman, Derek Sherinian, Zigaboo Modeliste, Steve Turre, Kai Eckhardt, Jon Fishman, Russ Ferrante, and oh so many more...currently I'm busy w/ Petalpusher, the live incarnation of the Deep House artist Miguel Migs' work. Also doing some stuff with Garaj Mahal, playing locally with Gregory James (new record on the way!) and my friends Bryan McVicker, Andy Dillard, and Co., Russ Gold, Jimmy Leslie, and doing one-off house-band gigs and sessions...I try to keep the calendar updated with the things people might actually enjoy...please leave a comment or say what's up.

I'm going to start teaching again

At various points in my musical life I've taught privately. Over the past few years that's declined substantially, mostly b/c I got so busy with Bass Player and gigs. Well, I'm still busy, but I'm re-...

Go buy a vintage tube stereo

I tend to periodically obsess. While music is the one thing that I've consistently applied myself toward (well...that's relative, of course), I occasionally discover a new focus for my info-hungry, sl...

On Steve Swallow, and why he is the shit

He swings. He has amazing tone. He has an original voice. Uniquely fluid sense of time and feel. Incredible sophistication, which he brings to bear in the most musical and compelling ways. And he's a ...
