MySpace BackgroundsWelcome to the introduction that can change your artistic life, by improving your motion pictures critical reception and impact. My name is Watson, a film/television Music Supervisor. What this means is that I work closely with any given projects director, to help him/her musically establish the sounds you later hear accompany their visual actions taking place on screen. As a Music Supervisor, I am, above all, there to serve bringing a directors vision to fruition. Many people don't realize how important music is to their watching enjoyment, but mute the sound on your tele one day and speak a few lines of your favorite films dialogue, and you'll realize just how flat the experience would be, without either a score or a bands music playing underneath various scenes. After all, what would '8 Mile' and 'Hustle & Flow' be without the great tracks the hip hoppers are rapping to? Or the 'Star Wars' and 'Harry Potter' films without a John Williams score? Or 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High' without all that pop laden 80's greatness? Music is essential to every films impact and success. Acquired directly through a Music Supervisors assistance, or composed by a composer found through one, no film can flourish without a soundtrack of significance. I occasionally help select composers, but have been known to also be brought onto projects after composers are already in place. Depending on the avenue of the Directors vision, I can either compliment the score with additional artists, in scene specific places, or simply use various bands music all the way through.Ultimately, I am here on MySpace to network with film producers, directors and musicians. I would love to help in exposing unsigned and underground artists, as I, being a musician myself (with two of my own CD's released under the moniker of Elementary Watson - check Amazon.com, etc.), knows how important exposure is for independent artists. For verification, you are welcome to check my other two pages here on MySpace.com -- my personal page, which further elaborates on my history as a nationally published music journalist & recording artist:

Most importantly, there are two points that must be explained here now. Firstly, to all you producers and directors that think you can't afford good music on your low/no budget projects -- never sell your art short. What's the point of having a strong film, with bad music? I bring the last element into place, like the final piece in a mostly complete puzzle. I work within ALL budgets. Good music can be supplied for affordable prices -- most affordably, the best option, which is often totally FREE! How, you ask? Simple! Many artists desperately want their music in a television or film project -- Talented Musicians at that! You DO NOT need to settle for that awful basement band that your uncles, nieces, sisters, cousin says practices in the garage next door to their Golden Retriever's dog house. There are QUALITY recording artists, unsigned and undiscovered that need help to be heard! I supply that help. I balance between the best of both worlds. I give two parties what they want and need. A new, wider audience to a band, and cheap or free music to a filmmaker. Exposure for an artists music is paramount to those bands that are in the initial stages of their careers. It's more important than an immediate paycheck, because it can lead to multiple FUTURE paychecks for them! And don't worry, there is no bait and switch on my part either. I too am willing to work within the economic constraints placed upon your motion picture/TV project. Too many films have failed on the lack of merit of their soundtrack, don't be among them. And do not allow your new project to be dated by music that's on the verge of falling out of style, as it's hanging on for the dear life of being barely in vogue in the first place.Secondly, to all the bands/solo artists that think you have what it takes: Now is your chance to prove your stuff. I work with all genres of music, for the different projects that have different musical requirements. Keep in mind, I can't guarantee you will be used, as, once again, your material not only needs to get past my screening process, but I then need to have an applicable project that it would make sense to use it in, as well as the directors approval agreeing to my selections/recomendations. That part is sometimes out of my hands. While I am respected in my background expertise in music journalism and recording knowledge, I am still not God. I cannot move mountains. Many of the projects I work on WILL NOT be paying the musicians, due to budgetary reasons. If, as a recording artist, you are adverse to this notion, you may want to consider moving along. While this is not always the case, it is generally industry standard practice, more often than not. If and when there are exceptions, with budgets that include enough for payments to contributing musicians, you future rock, pop, country, goth, punk and hip hop stars will be the first to know. But remember, payment is ALWAYS supplied in multitudes of people hearing your music and seeing your bands name and information in the films closing titles/credits...money or no money. Famous bands can make big bucks supplying music for films (or at least the license holders do). So if you're not yet famous, that means YOU TOO must start from the ground up! Regardless of how brilliant you *may* be. Welcome to Hollywood! You can contact me directly by e-mail through this site, or send CD's and inquires to:Watson - Music Supervisor
