to read the hilarious story of Kyra's WORST GIG - Thanks to Kevin from 'Bristol Rocks' for adding it to the site and also the addition of those very humorous illustrations.I've been asked by Kevin who runs the excellent all music website 'Bristol Rocks' if I'd like to contribute to the band review section when I'm not out gigging myself. I've been involved with most areas of the music business at some point or another over the last 15 years and there should be a little write up in the reviewer section of Bristol Rocks with a bit more info. So, if any bands out there (preferably in Bristol or surrounding areas) are interested in being reviewed then please email me either here or via the website (go to 'contact details' and hit 'review' in the drop down menu) and leave details of the gig/s that you would like to be reviewed and I'll do my best to get out to see your band in action. And if I can't make it, then I will pass your gig details on to other review sources in the area. Please hit the banner to check out Bristol Rocks.
National Final Beckons - Kyra Bernice Rocks Again
Mega-Talent Kyra Bernice from Bristol has now made the regional finals, previously battling through rounds of auditions and a semi final live show to reach the regional final competition of Live and Unsigned 2008.
At this moment, Kyra Bernice is one impressive performance away from making it to the Grand National Final, taking place in London, in a bid to be crowned the UK’s best ‘Live and Unsigned’ band or solo act of 2008.
Live and Unsigned is a national music competition for unsigned bands and singers to compete live. It stands as the biggest music talent search in the UK outside a certain ITV show. The difference with Live and Unsigned is that the acts taking part are encouraged to do their own thing; be individual, original, perform their own genre and style Live.
Chris Grayston, Events Director of Live & Unsigned explains “This cannot be compared to any other talent searches as the acts talent is the show. We are interested in discovering and exposing talent at its best; live! It is as simple as we say Get Live, get signed.â€
One contestant who has evidently caught their eye is local talent singer/songwriter/guitarist Kyra Bernice, now competing for a place in the National finals, with the possibility of grabbing that break through recording contract from over 10,000 that have applied for this years competition. The overall adult winner of the competition wins a Recording and management contract with Future Music with an investment of up to £20,000 to release their single with Future Music.
If Kyra Bernice continues with her success she could be crowned the UK's best Live and Unsigned act in front of a capacity crowd at Fairfield Halls, London on the 28th of June, including many professionals from within the music industry. They will be thrust into the media spotlight through television, radio and the press and furthermore all winners will all be invited on the UK Live and Unsigned Tour. The 2007 competition boasted ITV coverage and for 2008, Sky Television plan to film the regional and grand final, programmed to be broadcast with a weekly peak time show.
Dane Bowers, who anchored the R&B quartet Another Level, is a Judge comments; ‘This competition gives everyone a great opportunity to show what they can do’. Paul King from Future Music, who is better known in the music industry as the former Manager of Tears for Fears, Julian Cope, Level 42 and tour Manager for Genesis says “We have found that the competition is so effective for us to discover talented acts and bands and to place them in the music market place. We can really see those acts that have the commitment and fan base to be successful in the industry…and for the acts involved it is a great opportunity to develop, improve and impress.
Kyra Bernice, who is currently training hard to raise money for her first ’Race For Life’ (held 17th May) will be competing amongst other talented hopefuls at the regional final show held at St George‘s Hall, Great George St, Bristol on 20th April 2008 for a place in the National Grand final. Show begins at 6.15pm!

Review by Marty Drury National Press
Kyra and I need to talk. I'm this close to referring to Kyra Bernice as The Voice. There are thousands of people on this Earth who can sing. There are only a few who sing with a gift in their voice. Kyra Bernice could swat away some of her more famous contemporaries as if they were flies. Early Song, the first track on this album, is fantastic. Expertly written verses are complimented with an earth-shattering chorus that still manages to be beautiful. The presentation value of the new album is immense and I was instantly intrigued by the demo because of its cover. Kyra Bernice is what music is all about and boy can she sing.
Music speaks through Kyra Bernice and Kyra adds her own unique talent to complete the mix. You find yourself wanting to play individual tracks from the album over and over again and it is ridiculously easy to tap into the mood and meaning of Kyras music. But be careful. A cryptic wave is heading the listeners wave and, just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, a master lyricist is restored to her throne. There really is something special about this album. Kyras range is never plodding and she can lull her listener into a false state of security by allowing a pulsing track to follow a ballad. This album is a journey and you simply wont want the drive to end.
Blame the flame is an awesome track and one finds a sorry sense of disappointment come over them when they realise there really are only twelve tracks on this album. One leaves this album hungry to get hold of more recordings of this beautiful and stunning voice. I know all the tricks of the trade that the record industry can throw at the listener. And I remain in awe of Kyra Bernice. You will too.
A big thanks to Matt from 'If Not Today' (click banner below!) We now have a K.B banner and you're more than welcome to copy/paste the code to have it featured on your page. I always return the gesture ;o)
