About Me

.. .. .. .. ..> .. .. .. .. ..>
Married, 30, white male, living in Alton, IL.
I'm a musician and songwriter by trade, actor and comedian by hobby, Production Director by day, and mobile Disc Jockey by night.
My beautiful wife Julie and I got married on July 11, 2003. That's right, 7/11. Shuttie uppie. No children as of yet, but we are trying, hoping, and praying.
I enjoy all kinds of music, but am partial to punk, emo, metal, industrial, gothic, and good old straight-up rock n' roll. Anything that has a hook is a guilty pleasure, and I also enjoy brooding music, music that isn't easily accessible, music that stretches the boundaries of what most people would hear on the radio, and music that is epic in scope and execution.
I'm also a writer. I write mostly songs, although most of the songs so far consist of only lyrics. I've probably got 20-30 songs completed in form, but about 100 more pieces with no music to them yet. I am also in the middle of writing a piano-based rock opera, which, frankly, I've been writing since about 2002. I don't know when it's going to be completed, but I hope to light the fire again under my rear end one of these days.
I am a comedian and an actor. I worked professionally with ComedySportz St. Louis (now defunct) from 1998 to 2000, and also with CITY Improv St. Louis (also now defunct, go figure) for most of 2001. Only choose to make a career in comedy or comedy theater if you don't mind working crappy side jobs to make up for the income you won't get working on stage. I had some great experiences and learned a lot about what makes a team player versus what makes an individual shine, and it's an area I'd gladly go into again if I knew a way to make a decent living at it. Actually, the next season of Last Comic Standing may very well be calling my name.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'm not on here specifically to meet people, but I would like to connect and network with all kinds of people.
Mostly, I am always interested in networking with other musicians to create and perform music.
I currently work as the Production Director for my church, New Testament Fellowship in Alton, IL (STLChurch.com). We're a progressive church -- we use as many outlets as we can to help spread the message of Jesus' love and saving grace to our community and to the world around us. My job consists of presenting the Gospel message in as many creative ways as possible without pandering to the churched, without alienating the unchurched, and without offending anyone. Easier said than done, believe me.
If you check out the church's website - www.STLChurch.com -- you'll find out all about our ministries, and you can even download free MP3s and podcasts from our archive of past messages.
On the weekends, I moonlight as a DJ for Complete Music DJ Service, the largest mobile Disc Jockey entertainment company in the St. Louis area. I'm proud to say that I've been in the Top 5 DJs (out of about 50) each of the last 2 years, and I plan on remaining there as long as I can. If you need a DJ for any kind of event -- wedding reception, birthday party, class reunion, anniversary party, graduation party, what have you -- we book DJs for any type of event all over the St. Louis/Metro East area and surrounding areas, and we DON'T CHARGE TRAVEL PAY. Contact Complete Music DJ Service at 1-800-369-3535, or find us on the web at www.completemusicinc.com. Tell them "DJ Zack Attack" sent you.

How Naive are our children?

I just read a piece on MSN.com about how this fall's incoming college freshmen are living in a world with no Cold War.  It's interesting to think about, having grown up in the '80s, the idea...

The Monotony of Modern Worship

Talk about being in the world but not of it . . . As a rule, I don't put a whole lot of stock in music articles, features, or reviews from most Christian publications for a couple reasons: 1. They cov...

Hypothetical family issues

How many miles would you walk to stand for the person you love? This morning I had a pseudo-dream about my wife.  My brother-in-law was recently arrested for DUI, and I was thinking about this as...

Exploits of the Marching Band Member

My previous blog entry generated a lot of feedback from people when I first wrote it, back in 2002.  I wrote this the next day, just as a remembrance of where I came from in my musical life. &nbs...
