The art of Brandon Hiner consistently contains an element of surprise, as a second glance will often offer the viewer something at first unseen. A recurring theme in Hiner’s work is the dynamic use of bright splashes of color that explode onto the canvas similarly in multiple pieces. Hiner is able to use the same technique to represent vastly different images with his paint: a purposeful spill of red is the blood of a bird in one piece, while with a similar method he creates a sunset over the sea in another piece. Waves are often a subject in Hiner’s art, and he offers a range of depictions of the ocean, sometimes painting with loose fluidity and other times with strong strokes, showing his respect and admiration for the sea both as an artist and an individual.(Written by Sarah Carr of Line Up Magazine)
