Love, Anna is a group of people making music in Toronto, Ontario.
None of the members of Love, Anna have ever actually loved an Anna; however there have been many Anna’s held in extremely high regard by various members of the band in as much as there’ve been various Bill’s, David’s and Mohammed’s held in equally high regard by other members of the group. But Love, Anna also love palindromes and on that basis none of the preceding male names command the same respect as the sole female put forth.
Love, Anna would like to recognize and salute some of the countless Anna’s worthy of fascination, tribute and recognition. Some having been both canonized and demonized depending on which side of the cultural looking glass the observer is on. There is of course Anna Wintour, whose cheerful and matronly embrace has made the world of high fashion a happy, friendlier place. Let us also remember the ongoing tragedy of Anna Nicole Smith who had forsaken her glamorous given name of Vickie Lynn Hogan to tough it through her too short life using three of the most common and bland names in western culture. There was and is Anna Karenina in whose fictional bosom Tolstoy must have found comfort after slogging for years through War and Peace. There is the illustrious and lovely Anna Bowness who is miraculously raising a beautiful river in our soon to be fairer city. There were Santa Anna and Santa Anna, who lived out their concurrent infamy in Mexico and Texas, during the early 19th century. One a feared and fearsome Commanche war chief, the other a hollow legged Mexican general. Both loved and reviled depending on whom you spoke to and when. Both of these gentlemen may have been lucky enough to witness the Diaethtrea Anna, also known as Anna’s 88, in their lives times.
In regards to the music of Love, Anna suffice it to say that it rarely works and even more rarely makes sense but when it does both things together it can be truly grand.
An album was released in the summer of 2006 of which was said in Eye Weekly's Disc-overy Of The Week: "Love, Anna hotwire their hearts with the scorching guitar screech of Goo-vintage Sonic Youth ("Carley Sparks"), early Mercury Rev ("Zenaida") and even Ontario's own space-rock cadets, Sianspheric ("RockandRoll Ring Finger"), to invigorating effect." - Stuart Berman
A follow up album is expected for release in 2009
For the record Love, Anna has no love for addressing itself in the third person. We’re simply a bunch of Mister In-Betweens trying our best to accentuate the positive, otherwise the band would have to be named Hate Anna and it would crush us to lose the comma.
Love,
Anna
