DECLARATION OF FAITH Mohd Safuan B. Romli was born in the small village of Nine Miles in Tapah, Perak. His father, Romli B. Mohamed, was a Mix born in 1952 to Thailand parents from Phuket. He was a Marine officer and sergeant. He was a plantation overseer when he married Hatiah Bt. Yeop, an eighteen-year-old malay(muslim) – Ma' mother. He provided financial support for his wife and child. Being of mixed race, or a mulatto, Ma' dad suffered from racial prejudice as a youth and faced questions about his own racial identity throughout his life. Regarding his mixed race, I once reflected: "I don't have prejudice against myself. My father was a white and my mother was black. Them call me half-caste or whatever. Me don't dip on nobody's side. Me dip on God's side, the one who create me and cause me to come from black and white. He became friends with "Bunny" Livingston , with whom he started to play music. He left school for a while at the age of 14 and started as an apprentice at a local welder's shop. In his free time, he and Livingston made music with Joe , a local singer and devout Rastafari who is regarded by many as ma' mentor. It was at a jam session with Higgs and Livingston that Safuan met Arun, who had similar musical ambitions....
