About Me
..
St. Valentine - Patron saint of Love, Lovers, Couples, Happy Marriages.
Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. The Emperor, Claudius II, decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, so he outlawed marriages for young men in hopes of building a stronger military. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius II and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius II ordered that he be put to death. While in prison, Valentine and the jailer Asterius's daughter, who visited him during his confinement, developed a friendship and toward the end of his imprisonment they fell in love. The night before his execution, the priest wrote a farewell message to the girl and signed it "From Your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today. He was executed on February 14, 269 A.D.??? "
