Singer-songwriter David Lewin was born and bred in Paris.Davids musical journey began when he taught himself to play the piano. He went on to develop a passion for the saxophone and ended up learning the guitar
Into rock from an early age, David played keyboards and guitar in a band he started with friends, covering tracks by The Beatles, Police, Pink Floyd and many more.As time went by, David traveled down a variety of musical paths, accumulating flavors of everything from jazz to bossa nova, until he finally came across what would be his all-time major influence: Steely Dan.In 1998, after collecting a degree in film studies another of his passions David started his first official band : Clichy People, a name chosen in reference to the Paris neighborhood where he grew up. Influenced by Steely Dan, the Clichy People discography offers some rich compositions, blending tones of pop, jazz and funk. The band performed in an array of prestigious Parisian venues, including the legendary Elysée Montmartre, and at the Printemps de Bourges festival.Always on the look-out for a new experience, David played keyboards for French duo Modjo, known for global dance anthem "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)", on their 2002 world tour.On his return to Paris, Clichy People became Magneto and took on a distinctly rockier style. The groups original influences were not lost however and they continued to play gigs in and around the city.
Never one to miss out on an opportunity, David filled in ..boards for French punk rockers Gogol Premier and continued working on a number of other side projects. In early 2005, Magneto went their separate ways and David launched his solo career. He continues to play one or two Magneto tracks but has added a number of his own compositions to his repertoire: pop/rock songs with a more stripped down, melodic style.April 2005
