..Kontagious are a collective of MCs, singers and song writers residing from the South of London. With their diverse musical influences ranging from Hip Hop, Rock and R&B right through to Turkish and Middle Eastern rhythms they create a unique musical style which is not like any other. They write all of their own material and break the stereo type of the cliché MC in their music by using their own real life experiences and opinions to express themselves.
The collective formed in the summer of 2003 first starting out as just four individuals making music but since then have grown into a strong collective of talents who each bring a unique style. With some of these members being of Turkish Cypriot origin, this has not only come across in some of their tracks, but has also had a great impact on the London Turkish Community who have constantly supported them from the beginning.
Kontagious have independently made their mark in and around London by performing at many showcases and events. These have included events associated with Choice FM, Rewind Magazine and the London Peace Week Concert sponsored by the Mayor of London.
In 2006 Kontagious decided to break away from their record label whom they were signed with for a year. Fed up with the label’s lack of ambition and professionalism they felt that Kontagious would progress further with out them. Since then, they have independently released songs through iTunes, had support from a number of DJs on both underground and commercial radio stations and have had exposure on various television channels including MTV.
Their debut album ‘The Epidemic’ is an LP showcasing their work over the past four and a half years. It has a contrast of fast, hard hitting hip hop tracks like ‘Hittin’ The Scene’ and ‘Right Now’ right through to more guitar based tracks like ’Lying To Me’ and ‘Torn Apart’. Available through both the internet and independent record stores, this album has something new that needs to be heard.
