My Heritageboth my parents were born and raised in italy...my grandparents don't speak english...i don't speak italian...i dislike 75% of italian americans...i like 90% of italians...i think growing up gotti sends our people back 30 years and the sopranos pushes our people forward 30...so i guess we're right where we're supposed to beI Was Young Oncefor the majority of the time i was in school my name was listed first on attendance lists. when i was in pre-school i was proud of the fact that the teacher always called me first, in fact i got kind of used to it. one day my teacher was out and there wasn't a substitue so they merged the two pre-school classes together. so now this new teacher calls attendance but reads her class first. the first kid on her list is also named john and since i'm so used to being called first i shot out of my seat and yelled "present." at the same time she continued saying the last name and i slowly realized that she wasn't calling me. strangley enough the other kid was out sick so i was the only one standing. i can remember thinking, "oh man i fucked up." (not those exact words). so i just stood there pretending i was that kid...naturally the teacher knew i wasn't and asked, "you're john xxxxxx???" and i'm like, "yes".
