The story:
The concept behind 80%20 came from designer Ce Ce Chin’s observation that 80% of the time we tend to wear our favorite 20% of our wardrobe. After cutting her teeth designing for powerhouses like Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and DKNY, Chin jumped out on her own to design her own perfect shoe.
Her perfect shoe would be a fashion forward yet truly wearable style. Something comfortable and even flirty… shoes that could be worn for laid-back lounging or keeping up with frenetic city life.
Chin found success making shoes for those girls who were (almost) over their tomboy kicks and skater boyfriends. Soon she experimented in boots, and the hidden wedge. Her hidden wedge has since taken form in boots and sneakers in a variety of materials, including canvas and leather.
The new collection:
Expanding beyond sneaker roots and making their boots relevant for warmer weather, 80%20’s Spring/Summer 2009 presentation evolves to create a more constructed and detailed footwear collection. Ce Ce’s inspiration for the collection came from 70’s summers, vintage dresses, and “Fantasy Island.†Combining that dreamy, jet-setting vibe with practicality for modern adventure-seekers, Spring/Summer from 80%20 consists of brightly colored canvas, cork wedges, peep toes, cut outs, leather detailing, and Chin’s signature hidden wedge.
Slide into a pair and you’ll never want to take them off. Dance, work, play, kiss, cry, flirt… These shoes are meant to be lived in.
Since the beginning, 80%20 has been featured in Lucky, W, Nylon, Teen Vogue, Sportswear International, Elle, Lou Lou, Daily Candy, and WWD.
