About Me

Sleeping Dogs Lie is experimental indie rock from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Trieste is the sixth cd from the group since 1997... Sleeping Dogs Lie is headed up by songwriter / musician Eric Guenette with an ever revolving cast of musicians that sit in on various recordings. Some of the other musicians include Jim Sarmiento / bass, Darryl Shea / bass, Michael Grillo / electronics, Jerry Jordan / percussion, Holly Guenette / random instruments, Sean Guenette / trumpet, David Conway / vocals, Bowie / meowing, David Goodman / guitar & vocals, Ron Macapayag / percussion, Todd Zimmerman / voice, Scotty Jefferson / guitar among others... The “Trieste” cd (2009) was written and recorded entirely with found objects and homemade instruments. The 12 tracks continue the unique Sleeping Dogs Lie sound with home-recorded lo-fi fun, with creative chord arrangements and melodies, offbeat lyrical subject matter and annoyingly memorable hooks... Sleeping Dogs Lie started in 1996 in a small apartment in West Palm Beach with a Tascam 4-track, Alesis drum machine (credited as “Dr. Uma Chine” on several cds) and a $10 Realistic microphone. After spending a year of recording over 100 songs, Guenette decided self-release the music under the name of Sleeping Dogs Lie and soon after, the “Joy” cd was released in 1997. Jake Cline of CITY LINK magazine in Miami declared that “David Geffen and MTV would be wise to pursue the Joy cd”. With no other stable band line-up, Guenette continued to record and released the second 12-song cd “Slightly confusing to a stranger” (2000), which was more lo-fi and experimental than Joy. Splendidzine.com declared the song “Buddy” to be “song of the year.” 2002 saw the release of a more stripped-down, acoustic cd called “Nude.” The song “Burl Ives Died” from Nude is the Sleeping Dogs Lie top-seller on iTunes. “Head first down the stairs” was a 22-song cd released in 2006 with an energetic lo-fi indie vibe that again captured the attention of critics and fans alike. The “Swirl” cd (2007) was released with 22-songs, the 12 remastered songs from the debut tape and 10 new songs. The sixth and latest Sleeping Dogs Lie cd “Trieste” (2009) was released in April 2009... In 2006, Guenette decided to donate all of the proceeds from all future Sleeping Dogs Lie cd sales and downloads to charities such as Susan G. Komen for the cure because of the his mother-in-law Sandy Southwick who recently passed away in March of 2009 from her nine-year battle with breast cancer in Orlando, Florida. Sleeping dogs lie has donated $150 to charity as of March of 2009. For more information: sleepingdogslie.comVIDEO: "Stick it to the man" CD: Swirl (2007)VIDEO: "Bang!"
