Hello, my name is Charles Shoots The Enemy, I am Hunkpapa Lakota from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. Grew up in a small village called Little Eagle or Running Antelope District. Was raised by my unci/grandmother since birth...typical lifestyle on the reservation. Went to college at USD Vermillion for a couple of years...got my start in radio at KLND 89.5fm on Standing Rock........MORE ABOUT THE STORY OF KLND...I USED TO MAKE THESE DEMO TYPE OF RECORDINGS FOR JUST A CERTAIN FEW OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS TO LISTEN TO, CAUSE BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I AM THE SHYEST PERSON I KNOW...PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY BUT YOU TALK TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ON THE AIR AND HOSTED MANY EVENTS OVER THE YEARS AND DO DJ DANCES IN BARS, THE RADIO PART IS EASY CAUSE I AM IN A ROOM BY MYSELF TALKING TO BASICALLY NO ONE, THE IN-STUDIO INTERVIEWS ARE EASY ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW THE ARTIST, IN THE BARS ITS EASY WITH SOME COURAGE, THE CONCERT/PERFORMANCES IN FRONT OF AUDIENCES, WELL THAT IS TRULY HARD BUT YOU JUST GOTTA BUCK UP AND GET ER DONE...BEING IN THE BAND WITH MY DAD AND UNCLE WAS COOL...THE THREE DREAMS I SET WHEN I WAS YOUNG WERE TO BE IN ON RADIO, TO BE IN A BAND AND TO SING IN MY OWN DRUM GROUP, I HAVE FULFILLED THE FIRST TWO BUT STILL HAVE THE LAST TO DO...SOMEDAY. I STARTED AT KLND AS A VOLUNTEER AND WAS HIRED ON PART-TIME AND THEN TO FULL-TIME, THE MANAGER APPARENTLY SAW THE POTENTIAL AND PROFESSIONALISM...I FELL INTO DOING INTERVIEWS BY ACCIDENT, I HAVE LITEFOOT TO THANK FOR THAT, HE CALLED THE STATION ONE DAY AND ASKED IF HE COULD GET SOME AIR-TIME/INTERVIEW AND I TOLD HIM THE PEOPLE WHO DO INTERVIEWS WOULDN'T BE IN THE OFFICE TIL THE NEXT DAY BUT HE INSISTED THAT I COULD DO A INTERVIEW, SO HE GAVE ME A FEW QUESTIONS TO ASK AND IT TOOK OFF FROM THERE...KLND HAS TAKEN ME PLACES I NEVER DREAMED OF AND I MET SOME OF THE BEST PEOPLE I WILL EVER MEET IN THIS LIFETIME, FOR THAT I AM GRATEFUL...ANYWAY, I SOON GOT INTO OTHER ASPECTS OF COMMUNITY RADIO AND SO FORTH...2008...WE'LL SEE WHAT THE NEXT STEP IS GOING TO BE BUT I HAVE A REAL FEELING THAT THIS IS THE YEAR THAT THE NATIVE INDUSTRIES, ESPECIALLY THE MUSIC SIDE IS GOING TO SHINE........KLND was an amazing experience...I send out my special thanks to Alex Looking Elk for helping me in more ways than he knows. I am still working independently on radio projects, etc......I am very interested in helping out Native and independent artists in general getting their music heard. I am looking for music also, demo's, CDs etc. Please send me an email here on myspace........Just a Native and Human surviving in the world. Although, I am a very shy and quiet person, I am all about family and friends and all that good stuff...I am very much against the politics of life and am very much against all the negativity and I try not to let it affect me but we all know how it can be...we just got to try to remain strong and true to ourselves...don't let it get you down...as I always say "Be Cool and Take Care..."
