Shakti

Shakti is the Mother of all. Naga means snake in Sanskrit. When I lived in Royal Oak, Michigan, there was a beautiful woods in back of our house. When I was about four, I dug a hole under the fence and escaped into the woods to collect snakes. They were little gardner snakes. My Mom taught me how to feed them egg yolk, then we’d let them go. As I got older, the snakes in my life proliferated. My aprtment became a way station of snakes discarded by 7 out of 10 punk rockers. Then I began to breed large constrictors and pythons. Then I got a pet cobra. Then my apartment burned down. I got out with only one, Le Grand Zombie (a.k.a. Zombie.)Dr. John bought Zombie for me when I was on tour with him in the summer of '92. I was his snake dancer.I only live on coasts. First New York, now LA. I was born in Detroit. It is also on a coast (of the Detroit River).I co-founded Bodhisattva Trading Co. with my now ex-husband and current business partner, Rain Gray, in 1996. We import Tibetan singing bowls and Buddhist ritual objects and Art from Nepal and India. www.bodhisattva.comI’ve been practicing yoga since I was 17.
