I like to cover material that is relatable to the audience, such as going to jail with your dad…that’s not male bonding, that’s bail bonding! Divorce, separation, and why is it that even though my parents are separated, they still live in the same house? Why is it that my people, chicanos, can't get to work on time Monday through Friday, but come Saturday…we’ll be the first ones to a garage sale! I wish I had a “peso†for every time someone has told me that they’ve been through the same thing. I would have $6 by now!!!!
I was born in North Oak Cliff at Methodist Hospital and raised part of my childhood in the Lake Cliff area. Then we made the "BIG" move to South Oak Cliff, Polk and Camp Wisdom. We went from “Pollo Loco†to “Williams Chickenâ€.
I grew up an only child which forced me to be creative. I can remember countless days in the backyard playing football by myself. I was the whole team, the coach…the crowd…the commentators…the cheerleaders…and the fans! I especially loved windy days, the trees moving together sounded like the loud roar of a crowd (it must be a sell out). Like I said, I had to be creative.
Now, I live in Duncanville which is separated from Oak Cliff by a dollar store, toll I guess. Now I get the best of both worlds, a carniceria on one side and Odom’s Barbeque on the other.
People ask me how I got into comedy. Very Simple……I got fired! Because I was always late. My mom would warn me everyday, “Mijo, nothing good comes out of being late, look at me, I was late one time in my life, and there you areâ€. Tough love I guess.
Everything seems to be going well right now. The bigger clubs are booking me now on a regular basis, and I’m currently working with an agent from Beverly Hills. I have a DVD in the works, to be released in the fall, which will be reviewed by Salma Hayek for a possible casting on her upcoming show, “Ugly Bettyâ€.
But, I know none of this is possible without all my fans, friends and family, who come out and support my shows. They have honestly given me a reason to look forward to tomorrow. To all of you, I say “THANK YOUâ€â€¦and don’t forget to support your local paleta man! PREEN, PREEN!!!
