About Me

Finally deciding to jump on My Space midway through 2007. Very cutting edge, I know.I guess I would have to say I'm a professional journalist and music critic (though some would argue with that assessment).Since late 2006 I've been the music writer for the Scripps-owned daily paper in Memphis, The Commercial Appeal. I'm also a regular contributor to SPIN, MOJO magazine in the U.K. and German Rolling Stone. I've previously been a writer/editor for the Chicago Reader, Village Voice Media in Seattle and the New Times' flagship paper in Phoenix.I've done liner notes for a bunch of different CDs, including Water Records' reissue of Fred Neil's self-titled 1967 Capitol album, and a long essay for Rhino's forthcoming expanded edition of The Replacements' Tim. I'm in the early stages with a couple bigger projects as well.I'm also working on my low post moves.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Al Davis, Don Rickles, Bob Dylan, David Milch, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Karl Pilkington, the surviving members of the Peckinpah stock company (L.Q. Jones, R.G. Armstrong, etc.), Ron Wood, James Garner and 'Funky' Donnie Fritts, a.k.a. The Alabama Leaning Man (so cool, he needs two nicknames).

My Blog

New MOJO, new liner notes, etc.

Replacements feature in SPIN, etc.

For those interested, the May issue of SPIN magazine has a rather lengthy profile I wrote on The Replacements (the band, not the Keanu Reeves/Gene Hackman feel good football flick). It's tied to ...

Roky Erickson in MOJO, Warren Zevon in German Rolling Stone

I have a couple pieces in magazines currently on newsstands -- well, on stands in Europe anyway. The new issue of MOJO (which is available in the U.S.) features my lead DVD review of Keven McAlester'...
