Grinstead

About Me

Grinstead is progressive rock. Grinstead is metal. Grinstead is punk. Call it what you will, but in the end, we're just four music nerds that like to have a good time.
Every member of Grinstead brings something different to the table: Jimmy's knowledge in music theory, experimental guitar work, and emotion-filled vocals have proven to be invaluable. Alex belts out shred laden, aggressive, and even insightful guitar melodies, largely driven by his punk and metal roots. Snappy, catchy bass lines are provided by Nick, whose background in pop-punk and straight-up rock gives every song a unique twist. Finally, Tom the Viking unleashes his fury on the drum kit, mixing brute-force drumming with driving beats and a bad temper.
Whether you like shreddy metal, bouncy punk, or melodic, thoughtful rock, Grinstead probably has something for you. We've found that the concept of the 'genre' is too confining, and that it's far easier to let the music speak for itself. So sit back and enjoy, or come thrash with us at our next show. Either way, we hope you have as much fun listening as we do playing.

Sounds Like: We're not the kind of dudes to go on endlessly about how cool we are, so here's what Velocity Weekly had to say about us:Subtlety is wasted on the young. Every good day is the greatest ever, while every little defeat is certain death. Maybe that's why heavy metal, or any other heavy music, is often favored by the young. There is nothing subtle or mysterious about it.Grinstead, four Louisville guys in their early-20s, take the more brutal, revealing qualities of heavy metal and couple them with the developed melody of classic punk on this album. It's a fortunate pairing that lifts Grinstead out of the swirling mass of heavy bands bitching and moaning while saying nothing of any substance.Grinstead songs are long, intricate and take their time to unfold. But with sweeping waves of punk melody -- always dotted with solid metal guitar work -- the process is natural, never tedious.Jimmy Burns, who sings, "I'm tired of playing bit parts as the extra in your life" on the album's highlight, "Casting Call," has a pleading quality to his vocals. But he never resorts to begging or whining. -- Velocity Weekly
