That's DOCTOR Amanda to you!

About Me

..I am a closet geek (read: yes, i AM a doctor) who has luckily found her very own rock star and a nice warm cup of coffee. It figures, now that Denver is no longer home, I've found plenty of places to obtain a good gin martini. Guess it'll come in handy every time I visit. After two years here, I still haven't found a spot to drink in S.F. that really feels like home, though I suppose that will come in time.
I am not polite company because I discuss politics in public.
I like making mix CDs for friends. I want to introduce them to new, good music, yo.
Current music obsession: Oh damn. Who knew having a child would put a crimp in my music obsession? Um, last thing I bought was the new Wilco. Last thing I downloaded was the new Paul McCartney. (Okay, I bought that one, too, just not the physical CD.)
Smart, talented guys turn me on. (Inquire inside for a list of said talents.)
I spend far too much time researching obscure bands and obscure politicians on the internet.
I wish some of my one-night stands had lasted at least a week. And I wish I wouldn't pick up hanger-on, stalker-y boys whenever I traveled anywhere.
I force friends to go see bands they've never heard of.
I suffer from noun and verb deficiency quite often, and I seem to use the word "yo" a lot. These traits may be related.
I am much funnier in person than on paper.
I am a great aunt, though I'm not sure what kind of mom I'd make. I'm hoping to be a great one.
I've been known to drink too much. Waaaaay too much. But I like it, yo. Especially when men are encouraging me. ;)
Oh, yeah. I forgot: I'm a JAP, although I pretend not to be.
Blah...I'm lazy, so you can check the website for more info than you could possibly want to know. (*Warning* It's quite out of date. Of course, all of the old stuff is correct. So, forget that warning. It's still more information than you wanted to know.)

My Interests

best description of my life: science vs romance....oh yeah, and music to distract me. lots and lots of music.

I'd like to meet:

if you fall into one of three categories, sure, i'll meetcha: interesting people; men who will encourage my alcohol habit; real assholes. oh wait. i think i've met enough people who fall into that third category recently.

Music:

built to spill, am radio, weezer, girls are short, the unicorns, sloan, bob dylan, death cab for cutie/the postal service, white stripes, thunderbirds are now!, rilo kiley, wilco, johnny cash, ella fitzgerald, of montreal, hot iqs, the arcade fire, the datsuns, the shins, lots more "the" bands...meh, i'm too damned lazy to actually compile an even partial list of music i like.

Movies:

the princess bride
napoleon dynamite
grease
yep, that about says it all.

Television:

my t.v. does not work. instead i entertain myself by singing whatever itunes chooses for me while reading news websites. --okay, the previous statements used to be true. then i had to go and get a t.v. AND digital cable. dammit. now i'm addicted to cooking shows, the history channel, and american experience (hey, pbs is a cable channel...sort of...).

Books:

i have a really bad book habit. it seriously rivals my cd and shoe habit. in my rather lame attempts to remember why i love certain books as much as i do, i've recently re-read "the kitchen god's wife" by amy tan and "the stranger" by albert camus (matthew ward's translation, not stuart gilbert's). oh yes, and i just finished "the magician" by w. somerset maugham.
i have been feeling as though my knowledge of useless trivia has diminished in recent years, so i bought myself "mental_floss presents: condensed knowledge." i'm reading it in slow bits so that i can retain all of that new and exciting "useless" trivia.
i've just purchased "the lovely bones" by alice sebold. love that book, and i have no idea what happened to my last copy. in addition to that, i've just treated my jane austen obsession with tucker's biography, "jane austen the woman." i'm excited to get started on that one!
anyone have suggestions as to something else i have to read? i'm sick. i know it. and, the answer is yes. i've read every book in my home at least once.

Heroes:

i decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow

My Blog

i know, i know.  i'm lame.  i haven't blogged in ages and ages.  i'd use the excuse that i'm too busy (and, honestly, it's a fairly accurate one), but the truth is...well, there are two...
