About Me

Kevin Doris started on piano at age 6 learning blues and pop. His first teacher included ear training. Started playing trombone in 5th grade-the same year Kevin joined his first of many bands-that was in 1965. The band was comprised mostly of high school students and the band was doing paying gigs from the get-go. Kevin joined the military in 1972, where his passion for music was rekindled during his tour of duty in Thailand. After the military Kevin enrolled at The Manhattan School of Music where he received a crash course in classical music. Other areas of study included advanced ear training and analog theory-synthesizer theory. The synthesizers used were the Arp 2600-the one Edgar Winter used for "Frankenstein" and the Arp 2500-makes the 2600 look like a little toy.. Getting tired of the cost of living and the 2 blizzards of '78 Kevin moved to the west where he settled down in Albuquerque, where he joined his first pro band. It was a funk/disco band, solid hit material was being written, money was being invested in the band, hi $$ studio recording was completed-just in time to watch the fall of disco happen, and it happened fast...oh my, getting to the big stage wasn't easy-who knew... Thru a connection Kevin started writing music for tv and radio commercials, industrial music and custom music. Kevin got in to various rock and variety bands in New Mexico, moved to Oklahoma and kept playing in variety bands. Kevin went to the University of Oklahoma where he received his degree in music composition. Areas of interest included advanced orchestration and was also a member of the OU Big Band-18 piece jazz band. Kevin also started learning bass guitar under the study of guitar professor Larry Hammett. In 1991 Kevin received the Outstanding Composer award by the Norman Music Society, and in 1993 was also honoured on the National Dean's list . Moving to Texas Kevin continued the music ho route by joining variety bands while also working on his own solo compositions. 2 years ago Kevin met this cat named Jason Macedo-a shredder from hell. With both musicians being the cautious type it wasn't till a year later that they got together to jam. It has been said that their styles created an instant blend of unique originality. Without a good recording system-Kevin's Mac died over 2 years ago-Jason and Kevin were composing using Band In A Box. This past Christmas Kevin bought the Mac Mini and got the upgrade for Mark Of The Unicorn's Digital Performer. After the inital WTF have they done to this program shock wore off-it's so more advanced than his much older version-Kevin started the process of making the BIAB files into audio files. At that point Jason came over and threw down some rough takes on guitar, which are presently on his site. FYI-Jason does the takes from start to finish-no taking it up from like bar32.. At this point Kevin is re-doing the keyboard, bass and drum tracks-a rough example is Groove 2 at Jason's site-just bass and keys are changed, but it gives you a general idea on where we are trying to go with these compositions. A special SHOUT OUT to my Bro Jason for getting this site up and running-damnnnn-U done good Bro....***************************************************** ***********I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
