MJ Taylor

His music is fluid and peaceful, enchanting in its unusual chord progressions and captivating in its simple finger-picked style. His voice is gravely and resonant, raw yet refined, brimming with acoustic quality and broken passion in the same breath.MJ is now 28. He grew up in rural Victoria, then spent several years dwelling on the seaside in Jan Juc on the beautiful Great Ocean Road. More recently he moved to Melbourne to participate in that city's vibrant music scene. MJ's distinctive vocal style is the first element of his music that grabs the listener's attention. It floats above his effortless guitar work, which utilises basic chords in a style so captivating it belies their simplicity, and unique tunings and finger-picking so soothing it belies its complexity. He has toured as widely as Western Australia to New Zealand and just about everywhere in between. MJ has supported a wide variety of touring artists including Tim Rodgers and the Temperance Union, Ash Grunwald, Carus, Rob Sawyer, The Vascoe Era and The Audreys to name a few.A recently recorded live album, with violinist Indiana Avent, beautifully reflects the raw lyrical honesty of this young independant songwriter.
