About Me

Write in Hebrew with ChaiSpace.com
Jewish MySpace layouts at ChaiSpace.com ! L'chaim!
I'm a geek! Woohoo! My life isn't too exciting, so I'll probably be talking about nothing but Judaism on this MySpace. Oh well.
*******************
I'm a nerd and geek and I love reading and learning.
What do I live for? I try to always live my life as best I can - I try to be the best person and Jew I can be, being caring, kind, responsible, honest, and idealistic. I am passionate about Judaism and Torah and I have recently committed myself to greater religious observance, ethically and ritually. I am optimistic that one day the world and its people will be the best they can be, and I hope that I can do my part to bring that day closer.
I believe with my whole heart that there is no system of moral behavior that is superior to Judaism, and I passionately espouse Judaism thought, philosophy, and law whenever I can. Study Judaism even bit a little, and one will realize how revolutionary it was 4000 years ago at Sinai, and how revolutionary it still is today.
I hope for the day when humanity and Jews will reach the apex of our humanistic potential, and be all that G-d knows we can be. We're getting closer, slowly bit by bit, G-d please help us.
I am finally making aliyah this summer after years of waiting to, because Israel is our heritage, and now that G-d is letting us return, what reason could I have not to go? Rav Kook (Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook) apparently never understood Jewish opposition to Judaism, for he said "How could one not be Zionist, seeing that G-d Himself has chosen Zion?". Amen to that.
I am fascinated with science - especially biology, chemistry, and computer science; social sciences - esp history; and assorted geeky stuff - I tinker with my computer's hardware, and I'm on my school's math and robotics teams.
I hope to earn at least a Master's degree (if not a PhD) in bioinformatics (combination of computer science and biology) after attending yeshiva. Or maybe I'll get smicha and be an awesome rabbi...maybe I'll one up Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan and be a PhD scientist rabbi!
This profile is so out of date it isn't funny!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

My bashert!
I've also thought about how awesome it would be to go back in time and meet some past rabbis. Image going back and hearing Moshe Rabbenu's entire Devarim (Deuteronomy) shiur/spiel!Now, to say I'd learn under Moshe Rabbenu, Shmaya and Avtalyon, Hillel and Shammai, etc. etc., is too easy. So instead, I'd learn under

Rabbi S. R. Hirsch Rabbi J. H. Hertz Rabbi Isidore Epstein Rabbi Eliezer Berkovits Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Glasner Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg

And of course I want to "meet" Eretz Israel, and stay for the rest of my life. And don't you dare tell me that Israel isn't something you can meet - Eretz Yisrael is a practically an entity unto itself, physically and spiritually.
Am Yisrael Chai!

Eretz Yisrael, Medinat Yisrael, and Milchama in Parsha Vayishlach

Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Glasner and Eliezer Berkovits, on the Oral Law; same as Conservative?

I've found myself entertaining an interesting topic, viz. the relationship between the Conservative movement's philosophy/theory of the Oral Law to its practice. Thanks to Tamara's "I made a frumster ...

Amona

I don't think that I need to say that Israel's (so-called) peace plans are both unjust and suicidal. Israel has a right to its land, Arabs have not been abused as second-class (rather they are free to...

Our rabbis: Astrology and magic?

Our rabbis teach us that astrology and magic are legitimate forces in the world. For those of a more modern scientific bent, the simplest way to understand this is to say that our rabbis adopted the g...
