I am an Army veteran. I served from February 1974 to January 1977. I was honorably discharged in 1980. I served 13 months in South Korea and was in Germany for about a month. My basic training was in Fort Polk, LA. I served with the 121st Signal Battalion in Fort Riley, Kansas. I served with the 122nd Signal Battalion in Camp Casey, South Korea. My final duty station was the 72 Aviation Unit in Fort Bragg,NC.I worked in an automotive parts factory for over 22 years and changed careers last year to truck driver due to layoffs. This was a rough transition. I am doing well with my career conversion as of this moment. It is rough to leave home because it seems there is never enough time to get things done. However, there is a real sense of satisfaction when I get a load to a location that I have never been to before. I got to go to Washington DC!!! What a rat race!!! LOL. On the other hand, it was quite an experience getting lost and headed for downtown in a semi....bet I made those politicians sweat!!! I didn't realize that I could turn that big ol' semi around on streets that were not meant for a "big truck". By the way, thanks to my US Xpress trainer, Jay, for coaching me outta there!!! He was my angel that day! God bless him.
I was a UAW union steward, recording secretary and Veterans Representative. I was a passionate and compassionate representative.I write letters to my local newspaper when I feel a need to speak out on political issues, work issues, social issues, etc.I once worked in food pantry in my church. The reverend at the church asked that I become the coordinator of the food pantry. This involved setting up a "choice" food pantry, keeping records on people visiting the food pantry, setting up shelves for a new pantry room, ordering food from Second Harvest Food Bank, making announcements at church services and picking up the food in my personal vehicle. When I changed careers to truck driving I had to resign as the food pantry coordinator. It was one the saddest days of my life. Someday I hope to return to do it again, Lord willin'.By the way Meg....I took the soapbox crap out of this "About Me" stuff!!!!Myspace Layouts
