Bumper Crop was formed in March of 2007 the mission is the music and the guys have been working hard for well over a year now making it happen. The music of Bumper Crop is a blend of genres, some songs having a reggae sound while others may have a touch of ska mixed in with an acoustic feel. Thick bass lines laid down by Dustin Roelle, and with the addition of DJ OMS Adam Smith on the turntables this laid back sound just got an urban shot in the arm. Joe Hale holds down the beat with a steady hand, and wows the crowd with his crazy fills. Attempting do be a voice of reason through his lyrics front man Craig Smith sings of peace, unity, and tells stories of life through his words. Bumper Crop songs have a feel good sound that makes you long for the sun, the sand, and the waves. The love of music and performing for the people is what drives this young band to continue with their progress. All members call Davenport, IA their hometown but this is not the only common thread among the guys. The love of reggae and rock music of all kinds makes writing songs come easy to Bumper Crop. Each individual style helps form the one sound you hear from this group.
With the 2007 release “Goin’ To War†they solidified their songwriting ability. Since the release the guys have been working hard to continue a tour schedule while adding original songs to their repituare. Most songs expressing an enlightened up beat feel, while songs like “Sucker Punch†are obvious reference to disdain felt over past experiences. Every song redefines the band and keeps the fans guessing. Expect an album release by the end of summer in coordination with the group’s appearance at the Quad Cities biggest music festival River Roots Live. Slotted to hit the main band shell stage on opening day of the event, Bumper Crop is joining the ranks of many great bands to grace the stage at the LeClaire Park on the banks of the Mississippi. Since River Roots Live Bumper Crop has added yet another member to the line up; Justin Moulten plays lead guitar and is assisting in vocal duties as well. His addition will bring so much more to the table musically. As a songwriter himself Justin will bring some fresh sounds to the group!
