Lifelong fan of science fiction & fantasy in books, magazines, and on screen. Also fascinated by advances in science & technology and how they affect the world and how we live, nature & the environment, mythology & folklore, movies of all different types. (By the way, I often feel uncomfortable when having my picture taken, which probably shows in my photo...but it's the only picture I have of myself for the past several years.) I usually try to read a couple of books each week, probably about 45% speculative fiction and 45% non-fiction. I probably see 60- to 70-some new & recent movies during a normal year, although nowadays only a fraction of them on the big screen and the rest on DVD. If I tried to make a complete list of my top 100 favorite movies, I'd probably end up with several hundred and then have to try to pare it down. That said, however, there are four movies that resonated personally for me moreso than any of the others: Blade Runner (1982; directed by Ridley Scott), Gattaca (1997; written and directed by Andrew Niccol), Dark City (1998; directed and co-written by Alex Proyas), and Serenity (2005; written and directed by Joss Whedon, the storyteller genius behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly). (The "2507" in my MySpace URL is the year in which the events in Serenity take place, according to the book, Serenity: The Official Visual Companion.) I'm semi-omnivorous in my movie-watching habits...although, as you can see from both the above favorites and those listed under my interests, I have a special passion for SF/F/H films (and books and TV shows).
