A current 19-year-old college sophomore, Matthew Jones first explored his passion for film at the University of Southern California in the summer of 2003 after his sophomore year in high school. At the month long program, Jones wrote 10 screenplays, and produced a short film. In the summer of 2004, Jones set out to write, direct, and produce his own independent short, Separating Affect. This film earned Jones two awards at film festivals: Second Place Winner at the Teen Screen Film Festival and "Best High School Domestic Drama" at the International Student Film Festival, Hollywood.In the winter of 2005 Jones wrote, directed, and produced his second short film, Distracted. This film was shot at a real prison with minimal crew or budget. Distracted has been very succesful on the film festival circuit, screening throughout the world. Distracted was awarded "Best Socially Relevant Teenage Drama" at the International Student Film Festival Hollywood in 2005.Jones completed his latest short film, Be the Man, in June 2006. The film recently was awarded best African-American student film by the Directors Guild of America and is screening at festivals across the country.In the summer of 2006, Jones also worked with FGW Productions under executive producer Stephanie Frederic. With Frederic, Jones did PR work at the 2006 BET Awards and was an associate producer on a BET special for the film Miami Vice. Because of this work, he was hired as a writer and producer for the Idlewild BET special.Jones currently attends Biola University in La Mirada, CA where he is studying film production. At Biola, he is also in the Torrey Honors Institute. His passion is to become a professional director and writer who makes films that affect people.
