I cannot stand pretention. When people take themselves and what they do too seriously they kill everyone else's joy when they're around.(you can take yourself seriously if you're a doctor though) I prefer to surround myself with people I can tell dirty jokes to and who can take a brutally honest opinion without bruised feelings afterward. I love a good laugh at other people's expense, but even more so if it is at my own.
I'm a firm believer in Karma and that everything you do comes back to haunt or bless you. If you do something horrible to someone you will bring it all back on yourself ten-fold and make your life unbearable. If you do good deeds willingly and selflessly everything you want will always be at your fingertips. If a homeless person asks for a dollar....give them 2. Have gratitude every day...
