I like to have a good, laid back time. Hanging out with friends, my hubby, or my fam. I like messing around on the computer, reading, watching tons of anime, and playing dungeons and dragons. That's right, I said it.
Someone...anyone I can connect with. Even for a moment. Because that's all that life really is...just a series of moments.
Hope Kevin Smith doesn't mind that I stole that.
In terms of music, I like something that has a good groove. No groove, no like. I just have a natural dance to me, and if there is no soul, then I can't get into it. Not to say that a good beat can make a song, because there are mountains of evidence against that idea. I like rock. My parents are both huge rock and roll buffs, and it's been a household staple since before I was born. Evan is also a lover of rock music. I like the blues, because if you want soul, there it is. I like to listen to it, because it makes me feel closer to my dad. I like country, because of its pure emotions and because it makes me feel closer to my mom. I also like some techno (oh, the geekiness!) but its because I am a dancing machine! Anyhow, I listen to a lot of different bands, but overall, my favorite is the Police. Their music just feels so good to me. I don't know any other way of putting it.
I am a huge movie buff. I love to watch movies as a social event. I used to have some giant list up here of every movie that I ever liked, but I've cut it down to movies that are special to me, either because they changed my view on something, really touched me, were hilarious or were just very good movies. I would recommend these movies.
Animated:
Akira - Fantastic achievement.
Blood: The Last Vampire - I think this might have been one the first anime movies I'd ever seen. Thanks to Evan for introducing it to me.
Finding Nemo - You know why this made the list.
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade - Very powerful movie, with great style.
Princess Mononoke - This was my very first anime. Pretty good start, huh?
Spirited Away - This is my second favorite movie. It is incredible.
Non-Animated:
Alien - Absolute classic.
Blazing Saddles - This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
Dogma - Best religious satire I've ever seen.
House of Flying Daggers - My favorite movie. It's very stylistically beautiful, emotionally stirring and very well acted
Interview with the Vampire - As a lover of vampiric activity, this is a must-see.
The Matrix - You know, I don't care how cliche it has become: when this movie came out, it was kickass, and in my mind, it will always be.
Milo and Otis - Your face will melt because this is so goddamn cute.
Monthy Python and the Holy Grail - Oh, dare I name this the most quoted movie in history?
Pulp Fiction - Iconic.
Sin City - Fantastic movie while at the same time horribly disturbing. I love that.
Star Wars - I take them all! I don't care how horribly acted, or cheesy the plots or what have you. This was one of my first loves.
Team America: World Police - This is also one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
The Terminator - Another classic.
Of course there are other movies that I treasure, but these stand above the rest. If you think I've left out something crucial, I probably have. Message me, and I'll have a look at revising.
Well, I'm not much for traditional American television. I love to watch anime tv series', and freaking do all the time. My favorite of all time is Cowboy Bebop. I can not even talk about this show without coming off as a obsessed fan-girl, so I will refrain. I also really like Aeon Flux, although for almost the opposite reason that I like CB. I like Cowboy Bebop because it feels like the comfortable part of me, whereas Aeon reminds me of that part of myself that I'm somewhat uncomfortable with. Its a complicated emotion, and I don't know how to better describe it without sounding like a total dumbass. Other than those two, I just blast through anime. Oh, how I love it. There are just things that can be done stylistically that can not be done with live-action. There are also concepts that can be done in anime that could not be otherwise.
Anyway, now that I have established myself once again as geek extraordinaire, I will say that I do like some live action tv shows, but I rarely watch them, because I don't have television service in my apartment. I like to watch the UFC with my parents and Ev. We go to their place and watch the PPVs. Pretty fun. I also like to watch sporting events like soccer, and american football. I'm not much into baseball or NASCAR or anything like that. In the vein of loving things from Japan, I also like to watch MXC, (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) which technically is not from Japan. If you don't know, it's a physical challenge gameshow from Japan ( Tashiki's Castle) which is dubbed over by some smartasses and made to be very funny. Oh yes, check it out. Other than that, (prepare for more geekiness) I like to watch educational television like shows about the universe, or military weaponry, or the enviornment or human behavior.
Ah, literature. I love to read. I will mostly read anything I can get my hands on. I feel that you can really learn about people, or a culture by reading their books. I like fiction and non-fiction. Of course I have some books that stand above the others. But, either they are classics, (famous already and I don't want to look like some name dropper) or so obscure and it wouldn't matter if I put their names. If it's a great book, I've probably read it. If you want to chat books with me, I'll all for it. If you have a book that you really love, message me, I'd love to know so that I can go pick up a copy if I haven't already.
You know, it's cheesy as hell, but my parents are two of my heroes. They have both had hard lives, worked their asses off to give me a leg-up and even through all of their tough times they made it through together. Nothing is as inspiring as that.
