About Me

i'm an architect living in kc originally from the bay area (marin). i've been consumed with the design + construction of my loft (wlofts.com) for the last year or so; (see more pics) i bought a warm-shell (utilities stubbed-in) space and have been finishing it myself. almost there. architecturally i'm a minimalist: sleek w/ clarity but warm. i spent a year in bosnia-herzegovina (1995, at 19) working for the international rescue committee (zenica, sarajevo + gorazde) as a program officer/asst runnning programs from the delivery of supplies to agricultural start-ups to carpentry shops for ex-soldiers. 'i just got back from bosnia' doesn't seem to work anymore, so i said yes when my girlfriend of 3 weeks proposed. i like pina coladas, dancing in the rain and long walks on the beach.

My Interests

architecture. politics. moonlighting on more projects than my boss needs to know about. running. getting the archi... one's responsible for the building my loft is in to admit that their bullshit parking lot doesn't work and is an abuse of the inadequate kc building code.

Music:

the clash. more current: bloc party, the killers, the yeah yeah yeahs, modest mouse, the angry amputees and jack johnson.

Movies:

american psycho is the funniest movie ever. ravenous also, but less so in a similar way. southpark.

Television:

the daily show, sportscenter, not much.

Books:

i have a very respectable library of most architectural books you've heard of (or not). bukowski, hunter thompson (bats!), kurt vonnegut and terry pratchet for fun.

Heroes:

makoto tanijiri: 1974, born in hiroshima. 2000, established suppose design office. http://www.suppose.jp/index.html. prince-ramus in koolhaus's oma is too good-looking to get my full support, but he seems like a champ otherwise.

My Blog

Loft Design

The objective with my loft is to create a landscape with objects placed in it, much like a rock garden:  Such that a higher contrast (walnut) hardwood floor alludes to the lines of a contour...
