From the melting pot of a small kitchen in a Brooklyn 'hood, comes a great mind serving some of the greatest recipes yet. How can this be? Well, it's a secret; or better yet, Sicrit. Standing only 5'3 in a petite but thick Caribbean frame, her raspy voice and convicting delivery confidently serves every single word, only after careful contemplation and intense preparation. Her ingredients: Intellect, Struggle, Hip-Hop, and Love.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Jassie "Sicrit" Harris has always been preparing a meal that is sure to bring about change within herself, community, and the world at large. From a very young age the Hip-Hop culture always whetted her taste buds, and it was Tupac who first helped to make that calling audible.
Influenced by Malcolm X, Angela Davis, Russell Simmons and Jermaine Dupri amongst other great voices of change, Sicrit knew that her voice would one day influence a powerful culture through music and hosting. In effort to help her tune her voice, she attended Howard University. Excelling in her Public Relations studies, she has been afforded several noteworthy internships at The Congressional Black Caucus, Billy Holiday Theatre and Warner Music Group to name a few. These opportunities have not only enhanced her speaking skills but fed a personal desire to learn as much about the Hip Hop culture and African American community as she could.
After hosting Live Wire Wednesdays in Washington, D.C, and EMG's Back to Da Basics Hip-Hop Celebration, this Hip-Hop Influenced Orator recognized a need to establish a place for underdeveloped artists. In her own words, "I knew if I was an aspiring artist I would want a place where I could comfortably grow & develop. A place that was "real" but nurturing. A place I could creatively be free but most of all a place I could call HOME".And so Sicrit created The Main Event Show: Brooklyn's Official Showcase for Aspiring Artists, allowing her to sharpen her hosting skills while inspiring artist development. To add to her list of accomplishments, Sicrit has served as a motivational speaker at the Wadleigh Scholars Program Award Luncheon, and at the 2008 Trinidad and Tobago's Emancipation Day Celebration held at the T&T Consulate in NYC.
This mogul in the making is always concocting her next meal! She is currently stirring up her first DVD entitled Sicrit Presents: "The One You Love to Love" a semi autobiographical documentary of a her journey thus far. This DVD is sure to make you love her so much more that you'll want to have her hosting or planning your next event.
More than a Host, Sicrit motivates people to change. She is secretly making herself responsible for the continued development of the Hip-Hop and R&B communities everywhere through artist development and event planning. Succeeding against all odds, this "Sicrit" ingredient is a necessary catalyst to further evolve the ever-growing Hip-Hop culture.
Now you know you can't keep a secret! So go on and tell somebody that the pot cover of Sicrit has just been lifted... she is indeed "The One You Love to Love".
