Originating from Melbourne, Calski is a dj, mc and producer. His individual style of production creates an organic and unique sound that draws on the foundations of hip hop culture and original funk and soul music.
Calski established himself crossing rock/rap in the late 90's early 2000's with the band Another Race. Through 2005 to 2007 Calski teamed up with old school hip hop guru DJ Bacon as live MC/DJ act Microphonics. Over summer ’05 Microphonics earned high rotation on Triple J, Nova FM and independent hip hop programs around the country with the single ‘Better Than This’. Microphonics was a regular act on the local Melbourne scene and toured nationally.
From June until December in 2007, Calski and London DJ Soul Provyder played soul, funk, hip hop and disco to funky regulars at Shish cocktail lounge in Shorditch, London. More recently he spun 60’s - 70’s soul and funk with mc AND (Good Buddha) and Joelistics (TZU), at the John Curtain Hotel in Carlton, Melbourne from February to May 2008.
Without an official release this year, genre bending collaborations and remixes have seen Calski gain national and independent radio play. Calski has recently started performing with critically acclaimed indigenous mc Rival of Impossible Odds Crew; another diverse act pushing the boundaries of Australian hip hop.
2009 will see Calski produce several tracks for Impossible Odds debut album. Add that to a collaboration EP with Good Buddha mc A.N.D., remixes for blues/folk artist Jess MacAvoy and hip hop veterans Coalition Crew.
The future looks busy and bright for Calski.
