What it is Atlanta. This is Da Big Dutty Stinkin Spyda. Let's see now, my bio goes like this. I was born in Jamaica, moved to NY when I was about 7. At the age of 15 I moved to miami where I became re-aquainted with my heritage and began to start playing music. In Jamaica the term "DJ" what we call the "Rapper, Emcee, or Entertainer." The American term "DJ's" are we Jamaicans call "Selectors." Hence the name "Selecta Spyda." The Spyda part of my name comes from someone saying that i used to mix so fast that it was like I had 8 hands. Anyways, I was in high school mixing at house parties, skip parties, and anywhere else i can. Then I hooked up with a guy by the name of Mix Master Steve & Mello Sound from out of West Palm Beach. This is where I homed in on my skills as a hardcore dancehall Club & Clash Selector. I was what we call a "prentice." I was responsible for playing between 9-12:30, early warm-up in dancehall terminology. As the years progressed, and the age og 18 i got my first primetime gig with Mello. I was playing with Metro Media Sound, "Skyjuice" the selector. Mi seh mi mash up de place in such a way that Skyjuice came and told me that I can be a star when it comes to playing reggae. During this time A Selector by the name of Waggy Tee was playing in Miami, and he was the hottest thing since Pattie & Coco Bread. I then pattened my style after him, and then i elevated my selecting skills, Learning how to play certain songs at certain times to make the dance more heightened. In 1993 Due to Hurricane Andrew, I moved to Atlanta. My father and I then became radio pioneers by creating, producing, and publishng "De Reggae Connection." This was a 6 hour Reggae Radio Show on 1340 WIGO. Before now this was never done. they had a 2 hour show, but never 6 hour Caribbean orientated programming. We were on for about a year until we lost a major sponsor where we had to stop because finaces ran thin. Upon moving my uncle owned a reggae soundsystem, at the time a young up and coming DJ by the name of Lil John was playing for them. my first Club spot in Atlanta was the Rooftop where I played with dj's like Emperor Searcy & Lil John. At the time Lil John had a 2 hour reggae show on V-103. After the success of that night i was invited to play in the Historic Royal Peacock. Since the first night in The Peacock the energy was unparalled. The owner at the time said that I was the only person to sell out the bar in years. So he took a chance and gave me 2 nights a month in the club. From 93-95 I mantained a regular schedule at The Peacock as well as other clubs in and out of Atlatna. I have Played in Miami, Tennessee, Cleveland, NY, Orlando, Tampa, Alabama, Atlanta, Texas, and Virginia. In September of 95 The owner of The Peacock offered an exclusive lease on the club for three years. Also I started to work for a soundsystem by the name of Terminator Sound. For the Next three years Terminator rocked the walls of The Peacock every weekend. When the Lease was up the dancehall scene was quiet so I, went to school, and focused in on corporate America. I was the Web Master for Radio One Atlanta, which includes Hot 107.9, Praise 97.5, The New 102.5 WR&B, and Smooth Jazz 107.5. About take the music game to an all new level.
