John Paul Reid, AKA Xpans, is a God-fearing, versatile, genre-spanning DJ and producer from the Treasure Coast of Florida. Having traveled to many parts of the United States during his life, he has had the opportunity to be influenced to some extent by the popular music of those different areas. Since junior high school, God blessed Xpans with a creative passion that allowed him to be less interested in music that was current, and more interested in soulful music that felt good to him, to feel rather than be told what to feel. Growing up in a Christian household, Xpans was influenced early on by such underground icons as GRITS, LA Symphony, OneWay, The Newsboys, & dcTalk, music made to uplift and move a crowd, long before mainstream music was available to him. In high school he discovered his love for electronic music after listening to ATB’s 9PM (Till I Come), and soon after this discovery, Xpans purchased a copy of FruityLoops 2.1 from a friend and began making his own electronic music. Though his first songs were rough on the ears and most friends had no desire to endure them, they were symbols to him of expansion of his creativity and talent. After getting his hands on an updated version of FruityLoops (FL Studio), Sonic Foundry’s ACID Software, and an expanded track library (CDs, mp3s, etc.), Xpans began learning the tricks of the trade in electronic music, learning to compose, mix, and master, along with the delicate art of remixing. This new knowledge led to a respect for DJs and a dream to be one of the best in that profession. Since then, Xpans has worked very hard to master the hallowed art of DJing while maintaining his own style and passion. Specializing in tech-, vocal & progressive house, Xpans has brought his talent to a new level with the incorporation of Stanton FinalScratch into sets, allowing for greater versatility and a distinct level of quality and excitment for the dancefloor. Xpans has struck gold in the South Florida underground, having spun at some of the best new electronic music nights around, including Hotel Nightclub, Spank Sundays @ Porterhouse, Heaven Music Festival 2008, and Char in Ft. Myers. With the new single "Spirit Of Haus" released on his own label, Outlandish, and the launch of LiveMedia Entertainment Group, success is one step away for this talented DJ.
