In an industry of imitators and pre-packaged artists, Charisse stands alone as she crafts her original brand of energetic Pop/Rock songs that recall the work of pioneer songwriters before her.Charisse, born in Newport Beach, CA and raised in Boulder, CO, started her musical career when most girls were still searching for that first kiss. By the time she was 17, she had written and recorded two albums of mellow Pop music that showcased her abilities on the piano.At age 19, she packed her bags and headed to Manhattan where she met producers Jack Daley and Wolf who, over the course of a summer, helped her craft and record her latest album, Pleasure Victim. The album proved a departure from her previous sound as she swapped the piano for a guitar and laid down track after track of energetic, upbeat Pop/Rock.Charisse’s vocals, with their Annie Lennox-meets-Fiona Apple timbre, float like a cloud over layers of instruments. The title track drives along like The Rolling Stones collaborating with Garbage. Other influences that can be heard throughout her work include Rachel Yamagata, David Bowie, Razorlight and The Cars.“My style isn’t manufactured, it’s born naturally of my feelings and experiences.” she says. “I don't write with a specific message in mind I just make sure to be truthful. Truth is important, rare and desirable.”Charisse is currently playing out and working on material for her next album.
