Anyways......I work full time at an alternative school...which is work! I'm a single mommy :) and I am in college, getting my 1st degree in May but continuing until I get that Dr. before my name..so I got a while. I'm getting my 1st degree in social work but plan on finishing up w/psychology....gotta know what makes people tick. If ya wanna be a part of my case study...just let me know (kidding). Back to what I do...I work one on one with children whose main diagnosis is Autism or Aspberger's syndrome....which is a broad spectrum, but most of my kids are very low-functioning. It's a difficult job but I wouldn't trade my kids for anything...they really are great. If you can understand their disability, it really makes it easier. But they aren't just there because of the Autism. Most of them are also diagnosed with ODD or some form of Sociopathic/Psychopathic personality disorder or Schizophrenia, along with some OCD. Autism is classified as a developmental disability that results from a disorder of the human central nervous system. It is diagnosed by impairments to social interaction, communication, interests, imagination and activities. ODD is a psychiatric disorder that is characterized by two different sets of problems. These are aggressiveness and a tendency to purposefully bother and irritate others. The Sociopathic or Psychopathic Personality,
Although he deliberately cheats others and is quite conscious of his lies, he appears unable to distinguish adequately between his own pseudointentions, pseudoremorse, pseudolove, and the genuine responses of a normal person. So add those all together and throw in some M.R. and it makes for an interesting day. :) But, for real, I love my job. It does have it's rewards.
