My Interests

Traveling. "My favorite thing is to go where I've never been." (Yeah, I stole it...)Learning - reading is great, but especially by experiencing.

I'd like to meet:

People that inspire, challenge or otherwise excite me.

Music:

I'm all over the board right now...R.E.M.'s new album is good - if you like their old stuff. Been listening to a lot of DMB. Waiting on the new Metallica album this summer.

Movies:

Put together a pretty good list of classics on netflix that I've never seen but should have. I had good intentions to watch a bunch this winter...didn't happen and isn't looking good for the summer either.

Television:

I don't watch much tv outside of sports, Discovery channel, Learning channel and Travel channel.

Books:

Right now: Immanuel Kant, Daniel Dennett. On Deck: More Dennett, William Faulkner, Kurt Vonnegut. Okay so this hasn't been happening, either. Where does my time go? Prolly going to be slow going for a while since it looks like I'm going to be reading textbooks for a while...

Heroes:

I'm not a real big 'hero' person. My parents, mostly, I guess. I admire lots of people, but don't really have many heroes.

My Blog

Do you have an escape plan?

To the folks in Alabama...

In spite of the damage it is going to cause the entire state, both in actual dollars and in reputation (as if Alabama needs any more national embarassments), I am enjoying watching the morons run...

Has President Bush has already left office...?

I’ve always been pretty quick to give President Bush a pass for most of the mess in Iraq for a variety of reasons.  I’m not saying there hasn’t been some really stupid mistakes,...

Kennedy, a Democrat today?

As much as they like to put him up there as their political icon, I cannot, under any circumstances, imagine a Democrat of today delivering President Kennedy’s 1961 inaugural address?  &nbs...

Which is worse?

A prostitute sells her body.  A politician sells his integrity.  Which is the most disturbing?  Which is the most dangerous to society? Give a prositute enough money and you can screw h...

No wonder test scores are falling...

The more I think about a recent situation my brother encountered the more irritated I become.  He was helping his daughter with her Social Studies homework (she's in second grade) when he came ac...

Tiger is the man...

Well, I didn't get to watch it because I was at work, but did you see what Tiger did yesterday?   World Match Play tournament.  You may already know this but your total score doesn't matter,...

More random thoughts...

Currently, medical spending accounts for about 16% of the GDP of the United States.  That is a big number and it's getting bigger.  The cost of healthcare is rising at about 7.7% per year or...
