My name is Maila Nurmi, otherwise known as Vampira. The idea for "Vampira" came in 1953 at the annual Bal Caribe Masquerade, my costume being inspired by a character by Charles Addams. The name "Vampira" was invented by my then-husband, Dean Reisner. I was the first "queen of horror" before Elvira, Lily Munster, Morticia, etc. I had my own TV show (The Vampira show) in the 1950's, aired by KABC-TV. I introduced horror movies at the time. I was born on December 11th, 1921 in Petsamo, Finland.
