At the age of 5, Denise had her first piano lesson. For the next 14 years, she studied classical music, and won many local piano competitions around her hometown in Central Alberta. After so many years of training, she took a break from classical music and started focusing more on her other love - poetry. Several years ago she started to combine her two passions - music and words. While studying Recording Arts at the Art Institute of Vancouver, a fellow student found out about her talent and asked her to record an original song. That gave Denise the push she needed to play her own creations in front of an audience. She began to perform at open mics, and quickly found herself being sought out by both promoters and other musicians to open up for various acts around Vancouver.Denise's emotive, lyrical style and haunting melodies resonate with the listener. She lists some of her influences as Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, The Cure & Radiohead, while listeners have heard strains of Evanescence & Depeche Mode. In 2007, her song "Addiction" was a semi-finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest. Currently in Vancouver, BC, Denise is soon to begin recording again, and plans to have an EP out later this year.
