Headnok Entertainment comprises of Bay Area, California’s hottest production team! Take a minute to embark on a journey into the history and biography of this dynamic production duo.
Texas-born Christopher Thornton, a.k.a. R&B artist “Tril,†grew up as the middle child with 3 other siblings. At an early age Chris knew he was destined to share his musical talents with the world. Influenced by heavy hitters such as Teddy Riley, Guy, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Baby Face Edmonds, and Eric Sermon; he signed up for every Texas talent show, high school showcase, emcee battle, and dance contest that was within grasp. Chris then served his country with a rewarding but brief military career which relocated him to Monterey, California. There a management team, The Lane Brotha’s (Anthony and Frankey Lane), brought him into the group “R' Rendition†and established a record contract with Quality Records. Now with Headnok Entertainment, Tril's first single "Love Ain't What It Use 2 B," has received great responses on myspace.com and in the local club scenes. And with his new found enthusiasm he’s destined to become a successful force in the music industry.
Mark Smith a.k.a. Marcellus was born into a military career family growing up north of Sacramento, CA on Beale A.F.B. At the age of 16, his father retired and he completed the rest of his teenage life in a small town (Marysville, CA) near the military base. The sudden change of lifestyle forced Mark to re-evaluate his situation, become street smart, and learned to strive for himself. Marysville was a small town, but drug trafficking and criminal activity ran just as ramped as any large urban city. Despite the disparity and hardships, he knew he was destined to be a better person and with his determination and passion for music he knew he would succeed.
It all started with a movie named “Beat Streetâ€. Amazed and completely astonished on how one man had control over the crowd; from that first encounter it was evitable that he would become a DJ. With that goal in mind; he achieved his success playing at various radio stations, getting booked at night clubs, and private parties. This of course led to other goals as becoming a producer/engineer. He has produced songs for various artists and also has released many mixed tapes and 2 full albums, “Hip-Hop (Feelin’ It)†and “Please Listen to My Demoâ€. Another highlight was to hear his songs get played on the radio for the first time. As a producer, to hear one’s work played on the radio is the ultimate compliment.
Mark and Chris both having successful musical backgrounds and careers, equally impressed with each other’s knowledge and ear for good music. Realizing that they both had valuable talent and knowledge to bring to the business, their partnership began. Due to solo projects they parted ways for several years and hooked back up in 1999 to start a production company called BlakLyte Entertainment. During that time they created a demo featuring Tril and Marcellus. Two singles off that demo-received airplay, “For You†and “My Zoneâ€. A couple of years later after Marcellus had achieved success running a recording facility and DJ company by the name of Headnok Entertainment. Once again, the re-birth of their partnership joined together as a production team and they concentrated on perfecting and fine tuning their craft.
Headnok ENT is a self contained independent urban label offering clients an in house recording studio, seasoned Producers, and a Disc Jockey’s ear. With many years of experience, the ability to fine tune music has afforded this production company with premium sound and polished music to the industries standards. Headnok ENT has set forth goals to be recognized as a top-notch production company, currently focused on receiving regional notoriety and setting sites on national popularity.
