The Tyke Tyler Band

About Me

The Tyke Tyler Band consist of Brian McCrossan, (guitars, vocals) Richard Herity (Drums) and Martin Kinneavy (Bass, vocals) a three piece band from Luton who have been compared to bands such as Placebo, Stereophonics and the Vines. The band has been together since 2005 and has performed regularly around Luton, Bedford and the London area.In January 2007 the band were one of only 6 bands out of over 600 entrants asked to perform at the Pringles Unsung Showcase final in London. They performed before a panel of industry experts including the legendary Ian McCulloch (Echo and the Bunnymen) Marc Marot (ex island records MD, who signed Pulp and The cranberries) and Jonathan Quarmby (Grammy and Brit award winning producer) Although the band didn’t win the competition they received high praise from several of judges including McCulloch who described them as “fucking awesome.”Headlining tonight - The Tyke Tyler Band. These guys get better every time I see them. All three members seem so relaxed and in control on stage, but the most notable advance is in the strength of Brian's voice. I've always admired them for their prolific songwriting abilities, and tonight they present themselves as a band worthy of mainstream success. They effortlessly weave from their tried and tested 'PlacebOasis' formula through poppier New Order/Joy Division tracks, to a newfound blues-y-ness mixed in with a Who-siness... but they are at their most astounding when exploring the sonic plains of U2. Utterly amazing, epic and moving songs, delivered with admirable precision, and in no danger of becoming contrived like U2, Coldplay or Snow Patrol. i.e. They've still got edge. No, not The Edge... They don't don't need him when they've got Brian on guitar. The one or two punkier tunes are the only ones that jar with the band's over all aesthetic, but even then they are catchy and enjoyable.TTTB's set tonight is probably in my top 5 gigs of all time! Yep:- Elliott Smith at Shepherd's Bush Empire (1998/9?) - The Cure at Wembley Arena (2000) - Muse at Wembley Arena (2006) - way better than the Stadium show this year in my opinionI actually can't think of any others that I've been quite so blown away by. The Tyler boys don't put on much of a show (maybe I'd play guitar better if I stood still!), but they don't really have to. Their belief in the material all comes across through their musicianship. And of course, Kieron BlumunkiMoths dancing and chanting "it's all in the hips" with a pint in his hand, is entertainment enough. Especially when he drops it on the floor and carries on dancing in the puddle it creates, like a demented Gene Kelly. Love you man!Jimmy SunfliesHeader Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com!
