About Me

This is the new store, from the inside...
And the outside, driving past.
We sell vinyl. Our vinyl selection has been expanding. We appreciate nostalgia.
We sell Schoolkids t-shirts and hoodies.
And, we have the coolest posters and plaques in Raleigh hanging on the walls.
We now sell Brian Walsby music-related art. And he's taking requests!
We have awesome in-stores. These guys played here this past November. Not only were they total rock stars, they were totally nice dudes!
The Howlies were the first ones to grace the new stage, on January 31st. They rocked!
The Annuals played on February 2nd, 2009. The place was packed!

***ATTENTION BANDS WANTING TO PLAY IN OUR STORE!!!***
We would love to have your band play at Schoolkids Records here in Raleigh. There are a couple of things we would like you to consider before contacting us about performing here:
1. First and foremost, we are a retail store, not a music venue. We would love to offer our stage to everyone that asks, but unfortunately, it is not feasible. We have a small staff that has everyday responsibilities here in the store. Putting on a show is something that requires extra planning, staffing and scheduling on our behalf. This results in a higher overhead for our business. This is something to consider, especially if you are not promoting a new product. We view in-stores as an opportunity to make-up for this added overhead by selling the product of bands playing. We are also excited by the potential for new shoppers brought in by a band. In turn, we are excited about giving people the opportunity to see a band they love in a more intimate environment or to help an out of town band recruit some unsuspecting fans for their show in town later that night. Thus, the result of an in-store should be beneficial for both of us.
2. In-stores should be limited to one band.
3. We prefer in-stores to be roughly half an hour of music as to be courteous of neighboring businesses and staff responsibilities. This is obviously negotiable on a band to band basis, but needs to be addressed before confirming a potential in-store.
4. Please consider your volume output when inquiring about an in-store performance. We would invite you to use this as an opportunity to re-contextualize your music in a more intimate setting. We have neighboring businesses that we all need to be considerate of. Unfortunately, full drum kits, Ampeg 8x10 bass cabs and half stacks are too much for our small space. Think acoustic.
5. We have an eight channel mixer and two mics/stands. This seems to be sufficient reinforcement for 95% of the in-stores we put on. We have the ability to provide more mics, but this must be addressed and agreed upon before we confirm any potential in-stores.
6. Please consider your content. We have customers of all ages, colors, creeds, shapes and sizes. We don’t endorse foul language or intolerant language of any kind.
7. If you support all of these request, then please feel free to reach out to us! Please include a link to your music and any other information you would want us to know about you. If you an out of town band, please let us know where you are playing.
8. Thanks for considering Schoolkids Records!
