$4THIS IS ME4$ Beals strikes early, scores all five TDs for ParchmentPARCHMENT -- It only took 10 seconds for Brysen Beals to make sure that Parchment's football team would have a happy homecoming Friday night.Beals, a speedster with an extra gear when in the open field, got open on the game's first play from scrimmage and dashed 60 yards for a touchdown.A little over two minutes later, Beals, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound junior, sprinted 32 yards for a TD and Parchment was off and running, piling up 501 yards of offense in a 46-20 Kalamazoo Valley Association win over Hackett Catholic Central. The game didn't mean anything as far as the playoffs -- Parchment's record is now 3-5 and Hackett is winless -- but it did as far as Parchment's players.....We had to come out fast,'' said Beals. ....We've had an on-and-off season, and we didn't want them to get any momentum.''Beals, who had scored all five of Parchment's touchdowns coming into Friday night, had a foot or hand in the first three Panther TDs.After the two touchdown runs, Beals took a handoff on a fourth-down play, rolled out and hit junior wide receiver Zach Houseman with an 8-yard TD pass.Parchment, which had scored only 32 points in the previous seven games, scored on Jose Garcia's 1-yard run and another 43-yard dash down the sideline by Beals for a 33-point first half. n the second half, Parchment's first-year coach Tom Novak spread the ball-carrying duties.Garcia ended up with 79 yards on 11 carries and DeHaan, Parchment's quarterback, had 76 in 14 carries, plus completed 5-of-7 passes for 77 yards.....Our numbers are so low that I had to keep some kids out there,'' Novak said.Eight different backs carried the ball as Parchment rushed for 416 of its 501-yard offensive package.Hunter Gauge, one of the biggest lineman in the area at 6-3, 330, got a chance to carry, too.....Coach told us if we played hard he had a little surprise for us,'' Hunter said. ....Coach let me and my friend, David Ruiz (6-0, 260), each carry the ball. It was sweet. It was every lineman's dream.''Gauge didn't have Gauge blocking for him, however, and didn't gain a yard as four Hackett players swarmed him.Gauge, along with being a two-way standout, poured in and blocked a Hackett punt attempt in the first half.Hackett, which had been averaging 16.6 points a game despite nothing to show for it in the win column, had 324 yards of offense as quarterback Taylor Braman passed for two touchdowns and ran for another.Braman was 16-of-23 for 229 yards passing (with TD pitches to Tom Halpin covering 25 and 5 yards) and ran for 54 hard-earned yards on 12 attempts.....Our quarterback, Taylor Braman, takes a physical beating playing both ways, and does a great job,'' Dob Drake, Hackett's first-year coach, said.....Again we didn't tackle, and you never have a chance to win if you don't tackle.''Along with Braman, Drake singled out Anthony Santoro, a sophomore just brought up to the varsity, for his all-over-the-field tackles on defense.Hackett's wide receivers had their moments in the spotlight, too. Junior Alex Shinar had three catches -- one of them going for 69 yards -- and totaled 96 yards. Zach Thayer caught five passes for 61 yards and Andrew Deleeuw had four receptions for 46.
