Rachel Gaudry is an Australian composer, songwriter and performer with a diverse background in jazz, classical and pop/rock genres.
She studied classical piano from the age of six and later started writing and performing her own songs. She completed a Diploma of Music in jazz performance at the Canberra School of Music and then moved to Sydney in 1995. Around this time, she sang in various jazz bands, but eventually went back to her piano roots, playing solo piano bar gigs and working on her songwriting.
In 1999 Rachel met drummer extraordinaire Chad Wackerman (Frank Zappa, James Taylor, Allan Holdsworth) and he produced her debut album 'Leaving Traces' . He also plays on the record. In 2003 Rachel released a second album 'Bright Window' , produced by Sam Hawksley.
Rachel has performed in the USA, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, and her music has been featured on radio and TV broadcasts in Australia, Canada, USA, Spain and Taiwan.
In 2004, Rachel moved into writing music for film and theatre. Since then, she has composed orchestral and acoustic-electronic works for film, tv, animation, documentaries, theatre and radio. In April 2008, she graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School with an MA in Screen Composition.
Rachel is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including the Johnny Dennis Music Award and Australia Arts Council International Pathways grants. In 2007, she won a Golden Reel Award for her work as music editor on the short film 'Shot Open' and has been nominated for her music for the film in the 'Best Music for a Short Film' category of the 2008 APRA-AGSC Screen Music Awards.
