As Is Brass Band

About Me

The As-Is Brass Band was a quartet(tuba,trombone,baritone/alto/,and two trumpets) from San Francisco/Oakland performing a variety of new and classic styles of brass band tunes ranging from American Dixieland, to Eastern European gypsy music in the Fanfare tradition, to Avant-garde "new" music. The bulk of our repertoire being original compositions, we provide a blend between a famliar and innovative style while at the same time being entirely musical, danceable, serious and fun. We perform with and without drummers, having a couple of the bay area's best(and busiest) to choose from. As-Is plays : weddings ,funerals, circumsisions, partys ,clubs, etc.......

Greg studied trombone at CSU Northridge with Bill Booth, and music composition with Daniel Kessner, before transferring to UC Santa Barbara, where he studied composition with Stephen Hartke, and received his BA in music in 1987.JOSHUA LINDENFELZER (trumpet) although relatively new to the horn Josh has been experimenting with music from an early age. With an innate musical sense and an excellent ear he adds a raw and enjoyable style to all of his projects which include performing with the Bay Area’s ever popular Extra Action Marching Band and formerly with Knees and Elbows. He has performed on stage with David Byrne, the Fitzcock Follies ,Lycaon Pictus, and MC Trachiotomy and also toured with San Diego's Tristeza.JONATHAN SELIN (sousaphone/tuba) began playing sousaphone when he was hardly big enough to hold one and has grown into a life of music being also quite an accomplished jazz drummer and percussionist sometimes going back and forth between horn and drums depending on the needs . He likewise performs with the EAMB and Knees and Elbows and has recently been added to the arsenal of Polkacide, San Francisco’s long reigning kings of polka punk.TOMMY CAPPEL(drums) Tommy has been playing drums for over 20 years. His involvement in many Bay Area musical projects makes him a very sought after percussionist. Some of his other current dedications include the Yard Dogs Road Show, Eenormus Sidecar, Breakfast, Cyclical Pulse, The Golden Wings of Glory, and the Extra-Action Marching Band. As well as being an intense performer on stage, his technique and style shine in the studio as well. In the winter of 2006, while on break from touring nationally, Tommy contributed his drumming to 3 full length studio albums by Eenormus Sidecar, As Is Brass Band, and The Yard Dogs Road Show. He also finished his 5th solo album, Cyclical Pulse, fusing samples of his own drumming, mixed with electronics, piano, bass, and sound design, thus showing his skill at production and mixing. His original compositions have found their way in commercial, independent film, and website applications. Tommy Cappel has shared the stage with many intense creatures in his life as a musician, and will continue doing so with educated, improvisational, and natural musical nuances of the past, present and future.
