It’s a natural cliché to associate beautiful, pristine beaches, exhilarating waterfalls, spectacular lava flows and some, if not the best surfing in the world when one thinks of the islands of Hawaii. That’s because those who’ve never visited Hawaii don’t know the true essence of the islands, nor the history behind them. Hawaii, which is comprised of 8 major islands alongside hundreds of other islands that make up the chains, (plus a few new islands that are being born as we write this) is literally the cultural melting pot of the world. From as early as the 1800s, many immigrants from all over Asia (including Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese and Korean) made the trip to find work in the many sugar cane & pineapple plantation fields that were sprawled across the land. Even to this day we have such diverse ethnicity groups such as Puerto Ricans, Portuguese, Mexicans, Pacific Islanders, Africans and many Eastern Europeans, – all which bring their own array of cultural views, recipes and way of life which in turn melds into the fabric of a multicultural society.
Another interesting fact about our state, more specifically the island of O’ahu, is home to the only royal palace in the entire U.S., the ‘Iolani Palace which ironically rests in our capitol district. It’s here where Queen Lili’uokalani was imprisoned for her “alleged knowledge of a counterrevolutionary attempt by her supporters.†Among the many historical royal landmarks across the city, there lies both a metropolitan area as well as vast acres of untouched country land, which is where the true Hawaii lies. Amidst the paradise ties, there’s much more to the mayhem than palm trees, luaus, 10-30 foot swells, grass hula skirts and poi. Taking the good, the bad and the ugly, which makes Hawaii what it is today, is where we find our sources of inspiration. A lot, if not all the product that we put out always has a strong cultural story behind it, the point we’re trying to get across is we don’t just put out product just to do it. There’s a lot of careful thought, knowledge, historical facts and branches from different cultures here and there that go into making a great product here behind the doors of FITTED, and we’re committed to giving the people quality product versus an inferior one that’s missing it’s soul! Our merchandise extends from custom New Era caps, our in-store brand of t-shirts, a women’s line, accessories and all the right essentials for your fitteds.
