Monkee Torture

About Me

This is one of the videos from our DVD, The Annals of Monkee Torture. If it's loading slowly, try downloading it here.

We are no longer a band. To everyone who's downloaded our songs, ordered a DVD, or left kind words for us since we split up, we say thanks. Some of us are now in The Anxieties , and some of us will turn up in other bands eventually.

We started in 2001, released a couple CDs, and played up and down I5 (mostly in Oregon, occasionally in California and Washington). We wrote songs inspired by early punk and metal, with equal parts venom and humor. Some people thought we were funny, others thought we were appallingly lowbrow. Hey, they were both right!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.monkeetorture.com
Band Members: Marc Hellbender; Dr. Glenn; Major Riff; Thrillington Rockingham Crimes, Esquire; Baron Von Torture
Influences: Ramones, Sloppy Seconds, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Adolescents, Twisted Sister, Teengenerate, Stooges, Guns'n'Roses, Dictators, Turbonegro, Judas Priest, Screeching Weasel, The Queers, Agent Orange, Zeke, No Means No/Hanson Brothers, D.I., Circle Jerks, Zero Boys, Angry Samoans, Runaways, The Dickies, Kiss, Generation X, The Freeze, Radio Birdman, Green Day circa 1989-95 (what, you're too "hardcore" for Green Day? Wanna fight??!?), Dead Boys, AC/DC, Van Halen (not Van Hagar), TSOL, Alice Cooper, Pass Out Kings, The Snukas... This list could go on and on.
Sounds Like: Ah, it's time to try and make ourselves sound "cool" ... We wanted to sound something like: the Ramones duking it out with Iron Maiden and Motorhead in a steel cage... or Turbonegro having their way with the Adolescents, while Twisted Sister lurks in the shadows waiting for their turn.

Sleazegrinder.com called us "sleazy, slur-along drunk-punk, kinda like a metal Sloppy Seconds, with a little Misfits and Judas Priest thrown in for extra kicks."

The Eugene Weekly said, "Many styles are represented in this debut CD from Monkee Torture. From '50s rock, British metal, American punk, all the way to '60s fairy tale psychedelic-metal (think Spinal Tap/Stonehenge). It is a marriage of punk and metal ... with guitar work representative of the finest metal tradition."
